Are you thinking about buying or renting a property in Bexhill-On-Sea? Nestled between the resorts of Eastbourne and Hastings, the seaside town is set in the stunning east Sussex countryside, within reach of a wealth of attractions.
You only have to look at the stats to know that Bexhill’s a great place to live – the second Halifax Seaside Town Quality of Life review found that Bexhill-on-Sea offers the best quality of life of Britain’s seaside towns, with four more hours of sunshine per week than the average.
So, could Bexhill-On-Sea be the perfect place for you? Read on to find out.
Bexhill Station is located in the centre of the town, and from here you can travel to London Paddington in around two hours 11 minutes, Brighton in around one hour 12 minutes, Eastbourne in around 27 minutes and Hastings in around nine minutes.
Cooden Beach station and Collington station are also 2.6 miles and 1.2 miles away, respectively.
There is also a regular community bus service that operates throughout the town, as well as Stage Coach Buses running to Eastbourne and Hastings.
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to eating in Bexhill. The majority of the town’s restaurants are focused around the sea front, but there are some further out. They include Trattoria Italiana, an Italian restaurant, The Taj Mahal, an Indian restaurant, The Chilli Tree Restaurant, serving Asian fusion cuisine, and Oriental Kitchen.
If you live in Bexhill, there’s no excuse not to keep fit. Bexhill Leisure Centre offers a large gym, swimming pool, three exercise studios, three squash courts and a health centre.
There’s also the Bexhill Badminton Academy , which offers group and one-to-one sessions, Bexhill Karate Club, who train at Bexhill Leisure Centre, Bexhill Sailing Club, which has a full programme of racing and other events, 1066 Gymnastics Academy and the Rother Swim Academy.
As a seaside town, Bexhill really comes into its own when the sun comes out. One of the most popular spots is Bexhill beach and promenade, which has beach huts and deck chair hire.
However, there are sandy beaches in the area, including neighbouring Cooden beach, so it’s easy to find a quiet spot where you can admire the scenery or enjoy a spot of sailing or sea angling.
Alternatively, you can explore Egerton Park, which is located just back from the seafront, and offers a range of facilities, including a children’s play zone, fitness area and tennis courts, as well as stunning views. The park is also home to Bexhill Tennis Club and indoor and outdoor bowling clubs.
If the weather takes a turn for the worst, there are still plenty of attractions to keep you occupied. Bexhill Museum is between Egerton Park and the seafront, and puts on a range of exhibitions, as well as hosting afternoon activities for kids.
You can also visit the De La Warr Pavillion, which is worth visiting purely for its impressive architectural design, but also hosts art exhibitions, as well as workshops, activities, tours and talks, or the former home of Rudyard Kipling, which is around 13 miles to the north of Bexhill.
In terms of retail, Bexhill has a range of high-street shops, including a Boots, WH Smith and F.Hinds the Jewellers, as well as a range of independent shops, including bridal stores, gift shops and galleries. For more serious retail therapy, residents can travel the five miles to Hastings, where there’s a New Look, Debenhams, H&M, Topshop, HMV and more, or the 30 miles to Brighton, which also has a wide variety of shops.
There are also a number of supermarkets in the town, including a Sainsbury’s, Tesco Express, Iceland and Aldi.
In Hastings you’ll find an Odeon cinema and The White Rock Theatre, which hosts a range of performances and big names.
In Bexhill itself, there’s No.48, where you can attend cabaret evenings, open mic sessions, quiz evenings and music nights.
For the kids, there’s the soft play area at Bexhill leisure centre.
Bexhill is well served by local amenities. Bexhill Library offers a wide range of literature for adults and children, as well as audiobooks, CD’s, DVD’s, computers with internet access and Wi-Fi.
There’s also a good choice of doctor’s surgeries in the town, including Old Town Surgery and Little Common Surgery, and a number of dental surgeries such as Your Dental Care. There’s also Bexhill Hospital, which offer services including day surgery, physiotherapy and radiology.
There are a number of free car parks around Bexhill town centre and seafront; however, there is a stay limit. The only exception to this is De La Warr Pavilion car park, which is pay and display during the day.
Bexhill’s residents have access to a number of good primary and secondary schools. Primary schools include Chantry Community Primary School, which is rated as ‘Good’ by OFSTED and St Mary Magdalene Catholic Primary School, which is also rated as ‘Good’.
